I Even Dream About Antiques!

I have been dealing with antiques for almost 8 years and I can testify that being an antique dealer becomes "who you are" when you are awake AND alseep.  I even dream about antiques, making up all different kinds of situations and antique collections!  I find that weird, but I live with it!

Last night I dreamed about a lady whose Mother had moved in with her so that they could care for her.  Her Mother loved her antiques and treasures so they were setting it all up just like a room in her home, but in their garage.  For some reason I was there helping (which is what I love to do).  You have never seen such a collection of beautiful things in your life (all made up in my head, mind you!).

There was beautiful cranberry glassware, opalescent glass, beautiful figurines of people and dogs, and the most beautiful desk set complete with a holder for an antique writing pen!  The bed was a lovely 3/4 mahogany spindle bed with a matching dresser with marble top.  The dinette set for the kitchen was a chrome set (in perfect condition!) with yellow top and seat covers.

In my dream I talked with the people about their Mother and her life and how they were lovingly displaying everything so that she could still enjoy her treasures.  They talked about how they really didn't have the room to do all of this, but they loved her so much, and wanted her to be happy.  They were hoping that some day she would decide that she could part with some of these items.

I offered to help them in any way I could to find the values on these items and to sort them, clean them, and display them in my shop so that I could find new homes for them when they were ready.  I even offered to talk to their Mother for them to encourage her and make her feel comfortable about the services I perform.

I woke up before I could talk to their Mother, but if I had, she would have been encouraged to let go of just a few things at a time.  In my experience, the beginning is the hardest part.  Once she saw what I was doing, and visited the store to see all of her lovely items on display, she would have decided that it was OK and that she wanted to bring more in.

This is what I do every day in reality, and many ladies (and some men) have found that it is not as hard as they thought to part with their treasures if someone treats them and their treasures with respect and love.  Ah, a day in the life of this antique dealer!  I love it so much, I even dream up treasures to sort through!

If you've never been inside Memories, it is different from any place you have ever been before.  We have so many beautiful things which represent many, many years of people's lives in their homes.  Oh, if these items could talk, the things we would learn about life!
